pitbull

yes this stray pb mix interrupted my typical morning jog
i slowed to a walk as it approached to avoid two dagger marks in the flank of my lower leg; someone else's misfortune as moving prey was a lesson for me
poor thing
it had no id tag- a collar but no number to call (not that I had a cell phone anyway)
a nice stranger stopped to aid me in getting the pooch off the road
its domesticity caused a non-chalant pacing back and forth into both lanes between harrison and camino seco
impatient, rude horns were flying like the pesky seagulls on the beach
this stranger in scrubs pulled into the median and attempted to coax the wandering dog into the back of her truck with a corner of her cold cut sandwich
the canine had no desire to accept the edible offer- it made no sense to me
the dog spilled off into the apartments nearby, but remained within 15 feet of the road
it had no direction of finding home, but no sense of being lost
i was glad I could continue on back to my place, without the fear of being bit

this event is valuable in the greater context of my life
I don't have all the means and resources to captivate your attention or to lead you to that safe/comfortable backyard
but my care for you-to make sure you aren't making a mistake- aka getting hit by the time-thirsty compact automobile, is difficult to surrender
realizing you, like the stray dog, are in control your own direction is undeniable
putting my own intention last may be the way to keep a living creature from being smeared across the asphalt by my inconsiderate haste towards my desired destination

when you know what you want and it's not too much trouble, I'd appreciate the news
